Small and medium-sized farms in Sheki-Zaqatala and mountainous Shirvan regions can benefit from advisory services, the creation of new value chain models and agri-tourism development. The project provides more effective rural business decision support and promotion of local traditional food through participation in trainings and festivals and well as consulting services to SMEs and farmers.
Rural small-scale farmers may benefit from affordable advisory and information services in the region (both state and private) within the project implemented by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization – United Nations) and Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan. The initiative contributes to improving livelihoods in rural areas and reduction of socio-economic divergence in the north-west region (Gakh, Zagatala, and Balakan) of Azerbaijan. The priority is given to the development of marketing initiatives around rural food heritage, local brands, quality labels, and biodiversity resources. The focus is placed on ethnic food campaigns, particularly addressing the needs of women and rural youth involvement in local agri-food systems.
Small-scale farmers growing vegetables and soft fruit in the rural areas of Azerbaijan (Barda, Tartar, Aghdam, Goranboy, Goygol, Samukh, Shamkir, Tovuz, Aghstafa and Gazakh) can develop commercially viable value chains in the vegetable and soft fruit sectors and learn how to manage risks connected with climate change and natural disasters. The project offers participation in a trade fair, provision of information and training courses, provision of productive seeds and seedlings, organizing farmers in informal production groups, assistance with access to markets, assistance with access to modern equipment, state support services. Thus the household income of 5,000 vulnerable women and men small-scale farmers in ten rural regions of Azerbaijan will be increased.
The implementers of the project include: Samukh Seed Production Company, Association of Onion Producers, Association of Soft Fruit Producers, Ganja State Agrarian University, Ganja Women Entrepreneurs Public Union, State Agrarian Development Centers.
The Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association aims at serving farmers interested in pomegranate cultivation free of charge. Entrepreneurs can seek consultancy services on how to enter European markets, how to get ceritification, etc. The project will cover 2,000 small scale pomegranate-growing farmers having 1-5 ha pomegranate orchards in 100 villages of Goychay, Kurdamir, Ujar, Sabirabad, Hajigabul, Imishli and Saatli regions aimed at increasing their welfare.
Civil society organizations and social enterprises, which have the primary objective of solving social problems, can receive financial for up to EUR 30,000 and advisory support for best business ideas generated by social enterprises. The overall goal is to accelerate the development of the civil society sector in Azerbaijan through promoting social entrepreneurship culture and innovative solutions.
The project supports the Ministry of Economy and the Small & Medium Business Development Agency in developing the potential of entrepreneurs in rural areas of Azerbaijan. Rural entrepreneurs may receive training through an online e-learning platform. The initiative also helps to develop policies for business incubation and provides them with instruments (incubator guidelines, training programmes, study visits etc.). The ultimate goal is to develop a co-operation platform for the national and local business support organisations and agencies to strengthen the ‘eco-system’ that promotes entrepreneurship.

The purpose is to support the development of market-oriented and competitive small and medium-sized farming agribusiness sector by increasing sales of traditionally produced agricultural & food products.
Small and medium-sized enterprises as well as relevant business support organisations may participate in trainings and receive advisory services. The specific objective is to enable SMEs in the region to make better informed trade decisions when doing business in the region and with EU countries. The project will develop an online portal, providing trade information on the region and the EU, including market trends and requirements, export guides for selected products, build national capacity to collect and process trade in services data for selected sectors.

The goal is to implement innovative financial tools for the SMEs, promote SME "clusters" in selected areas of the economy.
